WHAT IS GOUACHE?
Gouache paint belongs to the series of water-soluble paints. This paint is made from the same binders and pigments that watercolours are composed of. Gouache has the addition of blanc fixe which gives the paint its opacity. This is also the difference with watercolour paint. Due to the opacity, gouache can be painted more pasty. The opacity also makes it easier to make corrections and you can paint with light colours over dark colours, unlike watercolour. With watercolour, the transparency ensures that light colours will not cover the darker shadows that lie underneath.
